Emo was first born as a music genre in the early 80’s. Subsequently it also brought a new trend in fashion and hairstyles. The word is derived from emotional, which is a characteristic of all what is related to this style.

Probably we will find that the main common characteristic between emo boys and emo girls is that they try to be comfortable and unique within society, expressing their individuality through emo hairstyles. They feel that the conventional hairstyles that can be get in any saloon are boring and that there is no need to follow the flock.

While many salons say they offer Emo hairstyles, the truth is there is no one true design. Emo hairstyles are characteristically considered any style that is mainly black with bright colors used for highlights or emphasis. However, each person usually has his or her own twist and personality to add to the style. Many consider their style to be an extension of their art and a statement to be made.

Many hairstyles classified as emo are not reproducible and cannot be recreated using a specific technique. Most emo styles are an evolution of a process. Emo styles will start out with a black color, but after that the fun begins. Additional colors may be added in streaks, lines, chucks, or even in whole layers. The colors can range from hot pink to bright blue. There really is no right or wrong.

Most emo cuts are not found on a saloon book. Many will start with a basic cut and then use razors scissors to cut as they style. Most styles are cut specifically for the way they are to be styled. Unlike a traditional cut that can be left down or put up, most emo styles have only a few looks. If they were to be combed down and left unstyled it might look like the cut your 8 year old gave him or herself. However once they are molded and fixed most emo styles can be referred to ask a work of art.

These styles are what set their owners apart from the rest of society, these people choose to be set apart and don’t want to play by societies fashion rules. Instead of going with the flow these styles create a whole new flow. Every people who always felt they could not fit in are now making the styles everyone is trying to recreate.
