Octopus – the word alone makes us think of some creature beneath the sea. However, you would be amazed to know that this creature, if cooked properly can taste delicious. Though you can try it out at a restaurant, it could be a lot for your wallet. The alternative option is to buy it from your local fish market and cook it yourself. There is a certain way to cook the octopus to bring out its taste. If you are wondering how to cook octopus, here’s help at your hand.
The first step as usual is to clean the octopus. The process is to turn it inside out and remove the entrails and the stomach sac. On the right side, you should be able to locate its beak, which is found on its tentacle. This needs to be cut off. If you find this to be a difficult task, ask the person at the fish market to do it for you. The next step is to tenderise the octopus by letting it simmer over low heat for about one and a half hour. The reason for doing this is to soften the octopus meat, which is not tender at all. After this process, add about three tablespoon of dry oregano, one tablespoon of white wine vinegar about two tablespoon of olive oil. Finally, add one tablespoon of salt to this mix. All this should be done in a bowl. Remove the octopus from the water and put it in this bowl of mixtures. Marinate it well. While grilling the meat, remember to turn it around frequently so that all the parts are cooked well. To serve, cut it into piece and then squeeze lime over it.
To sauté the octopus, cut into pieces and then sauté in butter over medium heat. Remember – over cooking the octopus makes it tough.
Though an octopus looks dangerous, it tastes delicious. So, what are you waiting for? Give your taste buds the opportunity to enjoy some mouth-watering dishes made of octopus meat.
