Take adequate amount of water to cook pasta of a desired amount in a large tall stockpot. Boil the water and add salt in to it. Adding salt to the water is necessary or else the pasta will taste very insipid. Hold the pasta vertically over the boiling water and drop the pasta in to the water. After a few seconds, the pasta will begin to soften. Use a long fork to push the pasta in to the water to make the pasta submerged in the water. The temperature of the water will fall after putting the pasta. So place a lid on the pot to make the water boil.

When the water starts boiling, you can remove the lid that covers the pot and continue cooking. While boiling water with pasta, you have to regulate the heat to avoid foaming up and spilling water over the sides of the pot. Separate the pasta pieces using a fork. Read the instruction of the manufacturer on the envelope to understand the time required to cook the pasta. If you want to know whether the pasta is cooked or not, you have to bite a little piece. Correct cooking point of pasta is al dente in Italian. Never overcook the pasta.

After proper cooking, remove the pot from the heat source and place it under the tap to add cold tap water. Then drain it and dress the pasta to serve immediately. Never rinse with cold water, if you are serving a hot dish. Rinsing of water is for making a cold salad. Serve the pasta as hot as possible. If you want to make a dish using pasta, then cook pasta using half the time for usual cooking. After partial cooking, allow it to cook completely in the oven while making the dish.
