Symptoms of Throat Cancer – When the Voice Begins to Falter

The simple definition of throat cancer is where basic body units or cells keep dividing uncontrollably in the parts of the throat like the voice box (larynx) and vocal cords. The most common causes of throat cancer are usually excessive smoking of tobacco and heavy drinking. This kind type of cancer is not as popular as cancer in the liver, colon or other parts of the body, yet it is considered rising due to the popularity of smoking and drinking as a way of lifestyle for people.
The positive side of this illness is that when a person begins to develop cancer in his throat, there are signs and symptoms that surfaces even at the early stage of the cancer. This is something to be glad about because it gives the person enough time to cure or prevent it from further developing. Throat cancer is unlike other types of cancer where there are no obvious symptoms showing off to tip off the person that he ought to seek medical help.
Below is a list of common symptoms of throat cancer. Any of these symptoms lasting from two weeks or three should stir a person to let himself be checked if he already is suffering from cancer of the throat. If one is a heavy smoker or drinker or both and experiences these symptoms, then there is no better option also but to go to the nearest hospital or doctor to let himself be diagnosed.
- There is an abnormal breathing sound, usually high-pitched
- Persistent coughing
- There is already blood along with the cough
- There is difficulty in swallowing
- There is already hoarseness in ones voice and this is not resolved within one to two weeks
- Pain in the neck, especially around the throat area
- Experiencing soreness of the throat and is not resolved within one to two week even with the help of antibiotics
- An unexplained weight loss
- Swollen neck
